“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act upon them?” Buddha

“In the beginning was the word’….that’s a powerful beginning and one appropriate for this new website and blog experience.. And I know how powerful words can be. I wanted to begin my blog, as I must with words, and reflect a bit on words, beginnings and how they affect our lives.

When I contemplate beginnings, it inevitably leads me to memories of my childhood. I remember the place of ‘art’ in my life as a child. I remember the pleasure of organizing my crayons by color and the delirium I felt of marking the blank newsprint. I remember the contentment and sense of completion in letting the paintbrush lead me to it’s end, an unconscious process which brought me deep happiness. There was no feeling in the world like this one; anything was possible. That was a time before you were told that ‘you couldn’t make a living at art’. This was a time, long before you discovered your passion, that you believed these words and allowed their power to set you upon a traditional career path which was acceptable and ‘stable’, (whatever the heck that means now).

The power of those words lived long in my life until decade ago, I realized their power and then recognized that I no longer needed to act on those words. Living a life of integrity and joy far outweighed the words of my childhood. My childhood dreams finally held more sway than the words.

So when was the last time you thought about words, and their power? When was the last time you remembered your childhood dreams, and believed that anything was possible? When was the last time you remembered the thrill of a new beginning?

Tell me about the beginnings in your life….
